Berthe Morisot

1841–1895 · French · Impressionism

Berthe Morisot was a French Impressionist and a founding member of the movement, exhibiting in every Impressionist exhibition but one. Her loose, almost dissolving brushwork captured private and family life, gardens and interiors, with a freedom and lightness that anticipated later modern painting.

Best known for: Domestic interiors, The Cradle, Eugène Manet on the Isle of Wight
