Botanical & Natural History

Botanical and natural history illustration is a European tradition spanning roughly 1500 to 1900, in which trained artist-naturalists recorded plants, animals, fungi and marine life with scientific precision and painterly care. Rooted in the herbals of the Renaissance and reaching its peak in the encyclopaedic plates of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the tradition produced defining works by artists including Georg Dionysius Ehret, Pierre-Joseph Redouté and Ernst Haeckel, whose images are among the most celebrated in the history of natural science.

This collection brings together 25 faithful prints of public-domain works by the great masters of the genre: from the hypnotic radial forms of Haeckel's Discomedusae (Plate 8) to the tender, full-petal portrait of Rosa Damascena (Damask Rose), alongside birds drawn from life, pressed-flower studies and insect plates of extraordinary detail. Every print is produced in full colour on 225gsm matt photo paper, available in sizes from A4 to A1, as a print-only or in a frame, from £19.
