Francisco Goya was a Spanish painter and printmaker whose long career bridged the late Baroque and the modern world. His official court portraits sit alongside the dark, private Black Paintings of his late years and the satirical Caprichos and Disasters of War etchings that put a new moral seriousness into European art.
