Henri Rousseau

1844–1910 · French · Naïve / Post-Impressionism

Henri Rousseau was a self-taught French painter whose dream-like jungle scenes and stylised portraits sit between naïve art and Post-Impressionism. A toll collector by profession, he painted in isolation from the academies and was championed by Picasso, Apollinaire and the early modernists.
