Katsushika Hokusai

Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese ukiyo-e printmaker and painter whose Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, completed in his seventies, includes the most widely recognised image in Japanese art, The Great Wave off Kanagawa. He worked for more than seventy years, and his prints reached Europe in the nineteenth century to inspire the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists.
