Paul Gauguin was a French Post-Impressionist painter best known for the bold colour and flat decorative style of his Tahitian period, when he moved to French Polynesia in search of an unspoiled, pre-industrial subject. His work was a central influence on the Symbolists and on early modernist movements including the Fauves and Nabis.
