fl. 1505–1555 · Persian · Safavid Persian painting
Sultan Muhammad was the leading painter of the early Safavid court at Tabriz and the chief artist of the great Shahnameh of Shah Tahmasp. His Court of Gayumars, with its leopard-skin throne and population of fantastical onlookers, is held to be the finest single page of Persian miniature painting.
