Utagawa Hiroshige was a Japanese ukiyo-e master who, together with Hokusai, defined the landscape print. His series Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō and One Hundred Famous Views of Edo are quietly observed records of Japanese travel, weather and seasons that profoundly shaped Western painters from Van Gogh onwards.
